The European Commission’s 'ICT for Health' unit aims at assisting the transformation of the European healthcare landscape through research and policy activities in the field of eHealth.
The European Commission invested so far €325m in e-health research within its 7th Framework Program with more to come with the 6th call for proposals.
The 'ICT for Health' unit’s activities span from research and innovation strengthening the eHealth industry and market to deployment of eHealth services across the EU. Special attention is given to provision of interoperable eHealth services across Europe, acceleration of medical know-how and understanding of disease-related processes as well as improvement of prevention and/or early diagnosis. The unit further deals with issues related to enhancing patient safety, enabling cost-effective management of chronic diseases and modeling and simulation of human physiology and diseases.
The European Commission’s 'ICT for Health' unit ec.europa.eu/information_society/ehealth is part of Directorate General Information Society and Media ec.europa.eu/dgs/information_society.
