Crescendo launches Healthcare Speech Recognition blog

Website created to help hospitals share experiences about medical record management based on speech recognition and workflow management technologies
Published: 07/30/2007
LAVAL, CANADA - (HealthTech Wire) - Crescendo Systems Corporation announced today the start of a dedicated healthcare speech recognition blog. The company is aiming to help hospitals promote their achievements with speech recognition systems and to provide a central platform for sharing news, ideas and experiences with speech recognition-based medical record management. The blog also provides links to press articles, case studies and market reports containing information about technologies and tools for optimizing the creation of medical reports. The blog can be found at www.speechrecognition.wordpress.com.
Claire Betis, Marketing Manager at Crescendo System Corporation, explained: “Speech recognition had been promising a brighter world for medical documentation since the 1980s but had systematically failed in delivering on its promises, leading healthcare facilities from one state of disillusionment to another. However, the past few years have seen the technology advance to a stage where it is finally able to deliver the long-awaited ROI figures. The Speech Recognition blog aims to outline the history of this relatively new technology, allowing hospitals to share and benefit from each other's experiences and to demonstrate the enormous potential of speech recognition-based medical reporting workflows.”
From Puerto Rico’s Consolidated Radiology Complex (CRC), who reported a 40% drop in turnaround time for radiology reports, to the Canadian Centre hospitalier affilié universitaire de Québec, who plans to equip 325 physicians from 7 departments with speech recognition, healthcare facilities across North America are embracing speech recognition as a powerful, productivity-boosting tool.
Nick van Terheyden MD, Chief Medical Officer for Philips Speech Recognition Systems and a world-renowned expert in healthcare speech recognition, said: “A technology that started as an administrative tool has become a critical element of care as it provides physicians with accurate patient data, enabling them to manage care effectively and draw accurate conclusions to administer the appropriate treatment. We therefore welcome Crescendo’s initiative as a way of highlighting the tremendous benefits of speech recognition to hospitals, clinicians, referring physicians and patients.”
The blog is aimed at healthcare practitioners and IT professionals and focuses on speech recognition technology in a health record management environment. Hospitals who would like to share their experiences can e-mail their stories to speechrecognition@mail.com. The blog is available at www.speechrecognition.wordpress.com.
