Ib-Salut earns top award for improving island healthcare
Published: 02/11/2009
READING, BERKSHIRE, UK - (HealthTech Wire / News) - Orion Health congratulates the Ministry of Health and Consumer Protection of Balearic Islands (Ib-Salut) for its 2007 Quality Award from the Spanish Ministry of Health.
The award was presented to the organization in December, 2008, for the Ministry’s Ib-Salut Medical History project in the category of innovation in the overall improvement of quality of care.
Orion Health, in partnership with Oracle and Fujitsu, began the three-stage phased project with Ib-Salut in 2005. The project included the development of a regional health information platform and an electronic health record (EHR).
Orion Health CEO Ian McCrae says the award is a fantastic achievement for the project team.
“It is further recognition of the global leadership Orion Health is providing in the EHR space. This project is about improving healthcare delivered to the Balearic Islands, and we are proud to have been a part of this,” he says.
Luis Alegre Latorre, Director Asistencial at Ib-Salut says the acknowledgment of the Quality Award by all regions emphasizes the importance of the Award to Ib-Salut.
“It is recognition that this project is the first step of a really revolutionary new system for us, he says.
Orion Health’s innovative integration technology and clinical workflow solutions were instrumental in the implementation of a world-class solution, which supports the accessibility of patient information from all levels of care (both primary care and specialist through to the patient) via the Internet.Fujitsu is a technological partner for Ib-Salut’s History of Health project, as well as the acute coronary syndrome registry, contributing professional infrastructure, services along with support and coordination of the efforts from Orion Health and Oracle.
Oracle technologies were used for the security identity management system to identify professionals and their roles. Oracle’s HTB (Healthcare Transaction Base) platform was chosen as the solution for the health information repository.
The trio of organizations working together have been able to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare in the Balearic Islands, from general practitioners to specialised physicians.
A number of laboratories and hospitals have been integrated creating the ability to keep personal patient records electronically and to allow for easy referral and verification of clinical tests.
Orion Health’s Rhapsody™ Integration Engine technology was deployed as the integration center for the project, using HL7 reference standards. In addition, Orion Health’s Concerto™ web-based Clinical Portal was selected to unify clinical data from several sources of information.
The award was presented by the Minister of Health and Consumption Affairs, Bernat Soria, in Madrid, Spain, on December 9.
