Market-leading, out-of-the-box speech recognition for medical doctors improves performance with resource-intense imaging applications

LONDON UK - (HealthTech Wire / News) - Nuance Communications, Inc., a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today announced that its desktop speech recognition solution Dragon® Medical 10 now supports Windows 7.  This assures customers that they can fully work on Microsoft’s latest operating system. Adding support for 64-bit operating systems, Nuance has also improved the performance of Dragon Medical 10 in parallel use with resource intense applications, for example imaging applications in digital radiology. All Dragon Medical 10 software will be delivered with the new features; existing users can update their Dragon Medical 10 version through Nuance’s network of certified reseller partners and professional sales organisations. The software is available in English, French, German and Dutch.

Story Highlights
  • Dragon® Medical 10 enables doctors to rapidly and completely document patient consultations using their voice.
  • Now improved performance in parallel use with resource intense applications ie. applications in digital radiology.
  • Existing users can update their Dragon Medical 10 version through Nuance’s network of certified reseller partners.

Dragon® Medical 10 is the frontend speech recognition solution allowing doctors to create medical documents and e-mails, search the Web and control their PC entirely by voice, saving time and boosting productivity compared with typing and mouse navigation alone. By enabling doctors to rapidly and completely document patient consultations using their voice, Dragon® Medical 10 not only reduces transcription costs and improves productivity; it also helps to cut patient waiting times.

“The NHS Improvement Plan of 2004 called for the waiting time between a patient’s referral and the start of treatment to be no longer than 18 weeks. Dragon® Medical 10 can help reduce referral to treatment (RTT) times by allowing for instantaneous document creation. This eliminates idle times in the RTT process when, for example, a request is sent to a hospital immediately after a patient’s visit to their General Practitioner,” explains Simon Manley, UK Sales Director for Nuance Healthcare. “At a time when the NHS is introducing new national standards such as the obligation of delivery of discharge summaries to GPs within 24 hours (last April), all healthcare professionals need the right tools to enable them to meet these requirements.”

Nuance will showcase it's full portfolio of speech recognition solutions at Smart Healthcare Live in London (June 15-16,2010), booth K17.
