Metrax exhibits new DefiMonitor EVO defibrillator and PRIMEDIC™ HandyScan mobile ultrasound scanner at Arab Health 2012

Metrax is to exhibit two new professional lifesaving products at Arab Health 2012 in Dubai, the DefiMonitor EVO defibrillator and a new version of the PRIMEDIC™ HandyScan mobile ultrasound scanner for emergency medical aid.

ROTTWEIL, GERMANY - (HealthTech Wire / News) - External defibrillators such as those demonstrated by Metrax GmbH at Arab Health at Zabeel Hall (stand ZH31) can save lives if deployed quickly during medical emergencies. Metrax, based in an area in southern Germany renowned for innovation and technology, will be exhibiting a new generation of defibrillators for professional use, defibrillators suitable for use by non-specialists and a mobile ultrasound scanner at Arab Health 2012 in a bid to consolidate its position in the prospering region.

Story Highlights
  • DefiMonitor range of devices specifically designed for use by emergency services, hospitals and resident physicians
  • 85 % of all sudden cardiac deaths are caused by ventricular fibrillation, a life-threatening, severely abnormal heart rhythm
  • "Our AEDs are specifically designed so that first-aiders or chance passers-by can operate them easily. The time between a collapse and defibrillation can therefore be reduced dramatically"

Metrax defibrillators are renowned for their ease of use, even in extreme situations. The DefiMonitor range of devices are specifically designed for use by emergency services, hospitals and resident physicians. The DefiMonitor XD product family, which is used throughout the world, boasts a practical design, is easy to operate and represents excellent value for money.

Short sharp shock to re-establish normal heart rhythm
Some 85 percent of all sudden cardiac deaths are caused by ventricular fibrillation, a life-threatening, severely abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) where an uncontrolled twitching or quivering of muscle fibres occurs in the lower chambers of the heart.

If untreated, ventricular fibrillation can quickly lead to death because the heart loses its ability to function as a pump. Immediate defibrillation, where a short, sharp electrical shock is delivered, interrupts ventricular fibrillation and allows the heart to re-establish a normal rhythm. There can be no margin for error, because every minute without defibrillation reduces the probability of successful resuscitation by around 10 percent. Which is why Metrax places a premium on the simple, intuitive use of its devices.

DefiMonitor EVO – a new defibrillator for use by emergency services
At Arab Health 2012 the Metrax team will be presenting the new DefiMonitor EVO, a device for use by trained rescue personnel, in ambulances and hospitals. The DefiMonitor EVO can be used to monitor all of the patient's vital signs during transport to the nearest hospital based on parameters such as pulse oximetry (SpO2), capnography (ETCO2), 12-channel ECG, NIBP/IBP, pacemaker (NIP) and temperature.

Primedic defibrillators with voice prompts and clear display symbols for lay persons
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) from the Primedic range of products for non-specialists will also be on show at Arab Health, with CEO Jürgen Bucher, head of sales Claus Wiest and export manager Tobias Mohry on hand at the Metrax stand. Public places such as airports, railway stations, football stadiums, etc. have been equipped with these types of devices since the 1990s.

The prompt use of AEDs by lay rescuers can increase the survival rate of a patient significantly within the first five minutes. "The fast and decisive action of first-aiders in conjunction with the technical intelligence of our defibrillators gives the patient a much better chance of survival," says Jürgen Bucher. Metrax AEDs are well suited to use by lay persons thanks to their design and the way they work. They will only deliver an electric shock if they can detect life-threatening ventricular fibrillation via electrodes. Clear spoken instructions - which can also be given in Arabic - and straightforward display symbols tell the first-aider exactly what to do in an emergency situation. A total of 32 language packages (39 languages) are available for the Primedic defibrillators, which can be selected and reserved during the ordering process. "Our AEDs are specifically designed so that first-aiders or chance passers-by can operate them easily. The time between a collapse and defibrillation can therefore be reduced dramatically," explains Bucher.

PRIMEDIC™ HandyScan - the mobile ultrasound scanner for emergency medical aid
In close collaboration with experienced emergency doctors, Metrax has developed the PRIMEDIC™ HandyScan mobile ultrasound scanner specifically for use by emergency services. The latest version of the device will be available from March 2012. It features a more powerful digital sensor, which allows for a higher resolution display of images and greater depth of penetration. The HandyScan is also as flexible as a digital convex ultrasound scanner in terms of its applications.
